Gatherings, a Listing of Acoustic Music Festivals, Camps, Workshops and Events
The old Music Camps page is no longer maintained.  It has been replaced by my Gatherings site, which is a much more extensive listing of events..

Alaska Folk Festival
This festival in Juneau, Alaska has been held for close to 30 years.
Bill Monroe Memorial Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival
June in Bean Blossom, Indiana.  The late Bill Monroe was known as "the father of bluegrass", and he started the Bean Blossom Festivall in 1965.   Features the best in traditional musicians.
Boston Folk Festival
Produced by Folk Radio WUMB 91.9FM, this is a weekend festival held at the University of Massachusetts campus in Boston in September.
California Bluegrass Association Father's Day Festival
One of the largest bluegrass festivals on the West Coast.
Durango Bluegrass Meltdown
Small festival held in April in Durango, Colorado.
Folks Festival
August in Lyons, Colorado.  Same sponsoring organization as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Rocky Grass, this is another terrrific festival.
Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival
Upstate New York in the summer, with a terrific lineup of performers.
Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival
Kate Wolf was a wonderful singer and songwriter before her untimely passing in 1986.  This festival in honor of her is held each year in Northern California.
Kerrville Folk Festival
Starting in late May each year, goes on for about 18 days.  Held near Kerrville, Texas at the Quiet Valley Ranch, 9 miles south of Kerrville on Texas Hwy 16. Starts right before Memorial Day at the end of May.  Famous for nightime "campfires," where performers and fans gather to trade songs.  Includes workshops for musicians, as well as a songwriting competition.
Merlefest
Annual festival held in North Carolina, held in memory of Merle Watson, a great guitar player and the son of Doc Watson.
Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Festival
August near Richmond, Minnesota.  This 20-something-year-old weekend three-day music festival features national and regional performers.  Located about an hour northwest of the Twin Cities.
Newport Folk Festival
August in Newport, Rhode Island, USA.  Started in 1958, the Newport Folk Festival is a legendary festival on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean.
Northwest Folklife Festival
May in Seattle, Washington, at the Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle.   This is a huge folklife festival, is free, and is a cornucopia of activities, not only music.  A wonderful way to immerse oneself in tremendous cultural experiences.
Rocky Mountain Bluegrass Festival - Rocky Grass
July in Lyons, Colorado.  Same sponsoring organization as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Folks Festival, this is a traditional bluegrass festival in the Rockies, with a great lineup of players.
San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival
February in SF, sponsored by the Northern California Bluegrass Society.
San Francisco Blues Festival
I've been to this one a couple of times.  It's usually held in September, on the Great Meadow at Fort Mason, a National Park Service area next to Fisherman's Wharf and the San Francisco Marina.  With a view of the bay, it's a wonderful festival, in one of the great cities of the world.
Stan Rogers Folk Festival
Late June in Nova Scotia, Canada.  Named after one of Canada's great singer/songwriters, this is an international festival of fine performers.
Telluride Bluegrass Festival
June in Telluride, Colorado, high in the San Juan range of the Rockies, this is one of the premier bluegrass festivals, which now also includes a wide variety of other acoustic music.
Walnut Valley Festival
Winfield, Kansas in September.   One of the oldest acoustic festivals in the country, this one is home to a bunch of  prestigious Championships in FingerPicking Guitar, Mountain Dulcimer, Mandolin, Old-Time Fiddle, Flat Pick Guitar, Hammered Dulcimer and Banjo.
Winnipeg Folk Festival
Long-standing folk festival, held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada right after July 4th.  Incredible variety of music presented.
Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival
February in Tacoma, Washington, with an extensive lineup, including major national acts.
