About the Gatherings Web Site

Who's in
Charge Here?
Don Venne has been listening to and playing a great deal of acoustic music for over 40 years. (He doesn't look that old, does he?  It's digital magic!!)  He thinks going to music camps and other events will keep you young, or at least let you enjoy growing old.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.  Please send them through the Suggestions Page.

The Gatherings site was launched in early 2004.  As of August 2005, there were about 200 events listed.  Keep 'em coming.

Financial
Disclaimer
I have absolutely no financial interest in any of these events.  Never got, nor do I expect to get, any money from anybody for listing an event here.  Don't expect to ever make any money off this site, but if I do, it will be a big surprise to me.

Editorial Control I have it and you don't.  I'd like to make this a useful site, which means that it needs to be subject to some editorial discretion and control.  There are thousands of events which offer acoustic music, but I'm not trying to be comprehensive.

What Get Listed Whatever I decide should be here gets listed, with an obvious emphasis on acoustic events.

My preference is to list tried-and-true events, so I may not be willing to list a first time offering, unless it is put on by someone who has already established themselves in some way, or unless it is likely to be of major interest to a lot of people.

Accuracy I'm only listing three things here -- dates or time of year, location, and the event itself, with a hyperlink to its web site.  I am deliberately not offering descriptions or commentary.  Please see the event's web site for more detail.

There's not too much room for errors, but they will no doubt creep in.  I want to be as accurate as possible, but I also want to avoid as much editing as I can, so I'll often list events by the month in which they occur instead of the specific dates for the current year.  If an event has updated its own site, it should have the next dates there.

Your Job As User Check things out!  Don't assume an event which is on the list is necessarily still being offered.  Sometimes festivals and workshops go out of business, either because they lose sponsorship or their venue, or because they can't make it financially.  If you become aware of the disappearance of an event, please let me know through the Suggestions page.  I'll verify your information and remove events as necessary.

Availability
of Event Tickets
A listing does not in any way guarantee that tickets are available.  Many of these events, especially workshops or camps, sell out early.  Obviously, ticket availability is beyond my control, and you'll have to stay on top of what you want to do with your time.

Completeness See Editorial Control above.  My goal is NOT to create a comprehensive list of events.

If Your Event
Isn't Listed
Feel free to submit it through the Suggestions page.  I can't guarantee that you will get listed, but I promise to take a look at your web site.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to correspond with you, either to tell you I've added the listing (you can check that yourself), or to tell you why I decided your event should not be listed at this time.

Your Submission
Didn't Get Listed
If you submitted an event, but you don't see it listed after some time has passed, either I haven't gotten around to looking at the event web site, or I have decided for some reason not to list that event.  I'm sorry I can't offer explanations for not including an event, other than it's an editorial decision.

If You Want Your
Event Removed
Well, of course, just let me know, using the Suggestions page.
