Talk to The Lawyer

Don:  The Geezers' fame is fading fast, so I did want to share with you an e-mail interchange with one of my poker buddies, a partner in a large Minneapolis law firm.

His first message: 

"We have an entertainment lawyer at BIG DEAL LAW FIRM.  We will need a $250,000 retainer. Your stardom will be assured."

My reply: 

"First we have to come up with the money for the tour bus, but I'm certain the band will be thrilled to know we can count on BIG DEAL LAW FIRM when it comes time to "lawyer up." Let's see, $250,000 divided by 8 people means a paltry $31,000 and change apiece. We need more band mates."

His final message: 

"Would it help your decision to know that our offer includes bail money? This fee also provides protection for the type of misconduct any reasonable touring band would commit in the name of art and expression."

We haven't hired the lawyer yet.
