The Mastermind and Instigator

John Epstein is a fan of Steve's who conceived of and started the Steve Goodman Preservation Society.  John takes care of all the technical details, gets the disks together and initiates the trees.  Here's what John says about why he did it:

"My main objective, as a fan, is to locate, preserve and share whatever of Steve's performances remain so all his fans -- current and future -- will be able to enjoy them, and to keep Steve's memory alive.  He's given us so much pleasure, I feel that is the least we can do for his memory."

The WebKeeper

This is Don, the WebKeeperDon Venne has been listening to a great deal of music and playing acoustic music for over 40 years. (Say it now, he really doesn't look that old, does he?)

In 1971, he was watching the Philadelphia Folk Festival on PBS, and noticed David Bromberg on stage.  Turned out he was playing backup to a short little guy who sang a killer train song called "The City of New Orleans."  After looking for an album by Steve, sometime in 1972, he found that very first one, and became a lifetime fan.

Don managed to see Steve play about 15 times from 1972 through 1984.  He learned a ton about Steve's tunes and playing style from watching and listening.  And Steve is still the one performer Don recommends to every musician he meets.

Don has a non-musical, non-techie day job, so don't look for high gloss professional web design here.  This is a labor of love, born of affection for acoustic music in general and Steve Goodman in particular.

Don's sole job here is to maintain the web site, so please don't e-mail him about the trees.  He doesn't understand that stuff at all.
